Press Release on IAC rally in Farrukhabad

IAC member Arvind Kejriwal announced that the new party, carved out of the movement led by him among others, would field a physically challenged person from Farrukhabad and ensure that Union Minister Salman Khurshid was defeated in the next Lok Sabha election from that constituency. This would be a befitting reply to Khurshid’s Trust siphoning off money in the name of physically challenged people, he said at a massive rally at the said minister’s constituency.

When the names of listed beneficiaries of the Zakir Hussain Memorial Trust run by the minister and his wife were announced one by one, they came and declared before a packed gathering that, although the names were correct, they did not receive the equipments claimed. About 20,000 people had gathered for the rally to listen to Arvind Kejriwal and his colleagues.

The gathering included physically challenged people from seven districts, namely Farukhabad, Kannauj, Mainpuri, Itawah, Bareili, Allahabad and Gautam Buddh Nagar. Supporters and volunteers of the movement had also converged from Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh.

The list of beneficiaries included a dead person — Gajraj from Bulandshahr!

Kejriwal took strong exception to the language used by former Union Law Minister and now External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid, who had threatened IaC volunteers of dire consequences with the words, “They can come to Farrukhabad but how will they return?”

How can a Union Minister and MP use such a language, Kejriwal asked. This was an insult to democracy, showing the system is actually not working in the country, he added.

Earlier, about 60 physically challenged persons had sought to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in Delhi. The appointment was declined, citing security reasons. How could there be threat to the Prime Minister from physically challenged people, Kejriwal questioned.
